The 49th Annual JFK Catholic Sterling Invitational
Staten Island's Msgr. Farrell Var. 1 Boys, Wilton, Ct. Var. 1 Girls, Rye Var. 2 Boys, and Somers Var. 2 Girls are the Team Champions!
Yorktown's Kumar and JFK's Kendzor Set Course Records!!
In the Varsity Boys 1 event, Monsignor Farrell High School, Staten Island, took home the 1st place honors. Somers High boys, finished 2nd. Yorktown, led by Manu Kumar (15:41 - Course Record), was 3rd.
The Var. 1 Girls race featured a battle amongst Wilton, John Jay CR, and Yorktown, who finished 1-2-3. Celeste Hoelz (19:32), Wilton, Ct., was 1st.
In the Var. Girls 2 race, the Somers High School girls were the team champions. Hastings High School placed second. Host Kennedy Catholic, finished third. The dynamic duo, Jessica Kendzor (Varsity 2 Girls Course Record - 18:56) & Breeda Mannion led the Lady Gaels.
Max Robinson (16:01), Rye, led the Var. Boys 2 runners. Rye won the event; Hen Hudson finished 2nd; + North Salem placed 3rd.

The JFK Observer: Kendzor (1st) and Mannion (7th) Lead Gaels to Bring Home a 3rd Place Trophy at JFK Sterling Invitational
Jessica Kendzor broke the Varsity Girls 2 Course Record and set the JFK Catholic Sterling School Record for the JFK Sterling Cross Country Course. She ran the race in 18:56. Breeda Mannion put aside a month of pain to run the best she could to finish 7th. She was a true inspiration to everyone who saw her fight through the pain. Together, the girls led their team to a 3rd place finish at the 49th Annual JFK Sterling Invitational in Somers, New York. As a result, the girls garnered a beautiful trophy for their school's trophy case. Doran Hastings finished 22nd, 3rd for the team; Colleen Iral came in 29th, 4th for the team; and, Emily Thomas was 32nd, 5th for the team. In 6th place for the Gaels and 36th overall was Clarice Chasting, Kennedy's newest addition. Sarah DiNome was 7th for the team and 39th overall; Sarah won the Freshman Race last year at the 48th Annual JFK Sterling Invitational.

ESPN - RISE - DyestatMetro: The 49th Annual JFK Sterling Meet Report
In the Varsity Boys 1 event, Monsignor Farrell High School, Staten Island, House of Champions, took home the 1st place honors. Msgr. Farrell Coach Tom Cuffe said, “We are coming again next year.” Somers High School boys, fresh after their victory at the Big Red, finished 2nd. Somer’s coaches Tim Fulton and Roy Arnensen were happy at their team’s strong showing explaining, “for health reasons, their top 2 runners did not factor into the scoring today.” Yorktown, led by Manu Kumar, was 3rd.
Yorktown’s Manu Kumar (15:41) showed impressive early season form. He eclipsed his own JFK Sterling course time. This was the best time of the day and a new JFK Sterling course record.
The Varsity 1 Girls race featured a battle amongst runners from Wilton, John Jay Cross River, and Yorktown, who finished 1-2-3 in exactly that order. Celeste Hoelz, Wilton, Ct., won the race with a time of 19:32 for the scenic course. Wilton coach Ted Farrell said, “It was worth the trip.”
In the Varsity Girls 2 race, the Somers High School girls were the team champions. Hastings High School placed second, and host, Kennedy Catholic, finished third. Sister Janet, a Notre Dame graduate, teacher (42 years), JFK Catholic coach (40 years) , Section 1 - New York leader (25 years), and runner was pleased that her team added another trophy to the school’s case from this event at the 49th Annual JFK Sterling Invitational, the oldest and finest Invitational of its kind in Westchester County, New York. Runners from Sleepy Hollow, Hendrick Hudson, Rye, Dover, Briarcliff, and North Salem also had respectable times.
Max Robinson, Rye, led the Varsity Boys 2 race with a time of 16:01. This was a race of balanced talent. Cameron Rasmussen of Hedrick Hudson was 2nd; Joey Moschitto, Briarcliff, was third. Taylor Love of Rye was 4th: Cody Orton from Dover was 5th; and, Christian Guzman from North Salem was 6th. Hasting’s first runner, Jared Schraf, came in 11th; Westlake’s first man was Patrick Donnelly; Eric DiNome, 16th, was the first runner in for Kennedy Catholic. Rye (51) won the event; Hendrick Hudson (81) School finished second; and North Salem (103) placed 3rd.
In one of the best one-on-one duel races of the day, Jessica Kendzor (JFK Catholic) and Katherine Doyle (Sleepy Hollow) passed each other and pushed each other to the limit in the Girls Varsity 2 race. The result was a new Varsity 2 Course Record and JFK Catholic School course record of 18:56 for the winner, Jessica Kendzor. Manhattan Cross Country and Track Coach Melissa Stoll came to the meet to recruit Jessica as a prospective student athlete for the Jaspers. She observed that Jessica “paced herself, ran the course well, and finished strong to catch and pass her competition in the end.”
The Wilton High School Girls team finished first in the JV competition. Yorktown took 2nd place. Somers, Rye, and Hendrick Hudson had runners in the top 25 spots in this event.
Mike Persic, Somers High School, won an exciting JV race, which consisted of 137 runners. Msgr. Farrell (28 points) was victorious, followed by Somers (38 Points). Both teams placed 5 runners in the top 13 laces. Yorktown (80 Points) was 3rd in this competition.
Somers (21 points) won the Girls Freshmen race. John Jay Cross River (40 points) finished second. Dover (59 points) placed third. Alosha Southern from Wilton High School was the individual winner.
In the Freshman Boys race, 108 boys competed. Fordham (48 points) edged Dover (54 Points). Both teams placed 5 runners in the top 20. Wilton was close behind with a total score of 80 points. Nick Myers from Dover led all runners to the finish.

In a year strapped by nationwide budget cuts for athletic programs in our nation's schools and an ever increasing number of competitive Invitationals, the 49th Annual JFK Sterling Invitational will proudly host at least 15 teams this Saturday at Kennedy Catholic High School, Somers, New York. This year, Wilton, Ct. crosses the Border, Dover runs South, Fordham ascends NYC, & Monsignor Farrell travels across the Verrazano, beyond Van Cortland to join our local schools (including Big Red winners - Somers High School) in the 49th Annual Sterling Invitational, the oldest and finest Invitational of its kind in Westchester County, New York.

The JFK Catholic Boys and the JFK Catholic Girls Cross Country Teams Defeated the Dover Boys and Dover Girls Teams at JFK
Coach Sister Janet (42nd Year), Coach Larry Elliott, Coach Jake Bergmeier, and Coach Frank Mannion watched as the JFK Catholic boys and the JFK Catholic girls Cross Country teams defeated the Dover boys and Dover girls teams at JFK, home of this year's 49th Annual Sterling Invitational. The JFK parents had a meeting after the races to discuss the upcoming Invitational.

Colleen Iral and Peter Rosaschi Run Breakout Performances at the Big Red Invitational
Colleen Iral was the second JFK girl to cross the finish line at the Big Red Invitational in Somers on Saturday. She had a personal best time of 25:51 for the 3 mile course. In his first start, Peter Rosaschi ran the course in 21:06 to finish as second man on the JFK team. Both athletes enjoyed breakout performances.

Coaches Larry Elliott and Jake Bergmeier said the team goal is to have seven runners under 19:00 for 3.1 miles and three runners under 18:00. They are expecting a big season from their seniors, highlighted by potential breakout runner Dan Callapai. Seniors Alex Cecere, Eric DiNome, and Brendon Paige are the other veterans.

Sister Janet Meehan has been coaching for 42 years this season. Jessica Kendzor and Breeda Mannion will again lead the Gaels. Both will be competitive at invitational meets all season. Both will be favorites to qualify for the State Meet in Class B. Kendzor will be in the hunt for a top 10 medal at the State Meet in Class B. The key for Coach Janet Meehan’s team this year will be the 3-5 spots. The team could challenge Pawling for the league title. Their new league also includes Dover and North Salem. Sarah DiNome, Doran Hastings, April Mante, and Emily Thomas will also be key returnees.

Jessica Kendzor of Kennedy Was Third - Big Red Invitational at Somers
- The Eighth Boathouse Big Red Invitational at Somers High School. Jessica Kendzor of Kennedy was third. The meet attracted 32 schools and more than 1,100 competitors.
