Jessica Kendzor of Kennedy had a big day in the Division II 800, taking third with a time of 2:15.38, a personal best for the junior. Kendzor improved her time by four seconds from the Section 1 state qualifier, where she finished first.
"It was a tough race, but I'm happy I was able to stay up a little bit close to them," Kendzor said. "I just tried to keep up with the other girls. I'm happy; it was a great race."
The above was taken from the 6/13/2009 edition of The Journal News. The article and interview were by Caey Tolfree, from The Journal News, reporting from the NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships at Cicero-North High School, Syracuse, New York.
Clarification: On Friday, Jessica Kendzor ran the 800M. On the podium, she was awarded the silver medal for 2nd place in NYS Public Schools. Jessie finished 3rd in Division 2 race overall. With all divisions and runners included, she had the ninth best time in the 800M on Friday, which qualified her to run as one of the top 12 contenders in the NYS Federation Championships on Saturday. Due to a clerical error by the officials, Jessie's name was not announced as a qualifier. Unfortunately, Jessie found out 60 seconds before the race that she had qualified. She could not reach the starting line before the race began to run in the race. Therefore, she is listed as a "SCR" in the official Federation results on Saturday.
