Winter Track and Field – Gaels Race to League III-A Titles

Boys

Kennedy Schuck’s the Competition

Kennedy won the League III-A crown over Briarcliff, 144-136.

Dylan Schuck paced the Gaels, winning the 55-meter hurdles (10.0) and the triple jump at (37-10 ¼). Brandon Wynne also picked up two wins for his team with a first place finish in the 3,200-meter run at 11:04.9 and as a member of the 4x400 relay team (4:04.9). Jesse Aprile (19 ¼) won the long jump and had two second place finishes in the 55-meter dash (6.7) and the high jump (5-6).

Liam Perry, Jonathan Concepcion, Eric Empsen, and Louis Fusco placed second in the 4x200 meter relay for silver medals.

Coach Larry Elliot was proud of his team’s depth, as he said balanced scoring was the key in winning the title.


Girls

Kennedy Catholic

Kennedy Catholic won the League III-A Title convincingly over Briarcliff at the Armory on Sunday.

Jessica Kendzor, who had a great day to lead her team with three wins, paced the Gaels to the title. She won the 1,000 meter run in 3:17.8, followed it up with a first-place finish in the 300-meter dash (43.7) and capped the day running on the first-place 4x400 relay team alongside teammates Abby Henry, Breeda Mannion, and Theresa Tolan.

Jennifer Cicchetti also performed well, winning the long jump (13-8 ¼) and the triple jump (28 ½). She also placed second in the high jump (4-4). Mannion placed second in the 3,000 meters (12:31.2) and 1,500 meters (5:35.2). Henry placed third in the 3,000 meters, while Katie Middlestadt placed third in he 1,500-meter race-walk (10:17.4).

Coach Sister Janet Meehan was pleased with her team, as the Gaels have captured more than 20 league titles during her tenure.
