  2. The girls run first with the first race beginning at 8:30 a.m. They should finish around 11 a.m.
  3. Boys races begin directly afterwards. They should begin sometime between 10:30-11 a.m.

This Saturday's Meet at the Armory

This Saturday, December 15th, we will be running in the Armory Track and Field center in NYC in the Kickoff classic.  The meet begins at 5:30 so the bus will leave Kennedy Catholic at 3:30.  That will give us enough time to arrive there, choose a location to place our stuff, and warm up for the races.  Freshman and new comers should find out before the start of the races where the bathrooms are, where they can get food, and check out the Hall of Fame.

Please read the following information as it is VERY important!!!

When we go to indoor track meets:

  1. It is important to label your bags with a tag, ribbon, or some other marking that makes it recognizable.
  2. The coaches and the venues where we compete are not responsible for lost or stolen items. If you are flashing your iPod Touch around, it could walk off if you are not careful.
  3. The use of spikes in racing shoes is FORBIDDEN by Section 1 at any venue unless otherwise stated. Use of them will get you banned from competing and the team may be disqualified from the meet. This rule might be lifted at the Armory later in the season, but we won't know until Mid-January if we can. No other venue allows spikes indoor.
  4. When we go to the meets, know where the bus is parked.
  5. You should bring food and drinks because we will generally be at a meet for many hours. The Armory in NYC is very strict about bringing food.... they do sell food, but it is expensive. I have seen them go through bags to check...
  6. No jewelry may be worn during a race or event. This includes items worn on the wrist like watches, scrunchies, hair ties and bracelets. Getting caught wearing them can get you disqualified.
  7. Some venues have really poor venues have very poor PA systems. You need to know the order of events which can vary from meet to meet. Know what race you are running and how long you have until you run. Know the check in procedures at each meet.
  8. BE RESPECTFUL: You may not under any circumstance use foul language or argue with other runners, parents, or officials. Remember, you attend a Catholic school and are expected to act accordingly.

On another note... REMEMBER TO TIE YOUR SHOES!!!

The Big Chill 2008

On Saturday, December 6th, the winder track team competed in their first competition of the season.  The Big Chill held at Yorktown high school would be their only actual outdoor competition (which was held in 35-40 degree weather), the rest of which will be held indoors. Great performances by all including Brandon, who won his first track and field race of his high school career in the 1600 meter race. As he was running his race, teammate Carlos informs Coach Bergmeier that Brandon was misinformed of the starting time of the meet, arrived only minutes before the race began, and had not warmed up at all.

Click the link below the photo to see other great moments from the meet. If you would like to keep any of the photos, just right click on the photo, "open in a new window," and drag the image to your desktop. At the end of each season, Coach Bergmeier gives each family a CD with all of the high resolution images for each family to print at their leisure.
